Add a fresh coat of paint
A new color scheme makes all the difference in the world and if you do it yourself, it won’t even cost that much. Don’t feel like painting an entire room? Paint just one wall as an accent wall.
This doesn’t cost a thing and you can change the entire look of your room just by moving a few things around. A small room can be made to look larger or you can make a large room more cozy. Check out Pinterest or watch a few home renovation shows to find inspiration.
Replace linens and add slipcovers
You can totally change the look of your bedroom with new bedding. I also love to update the bathroom just by adding a new shower curtain and matching towels. If a new sofa isn’t in the budget, try a slipcover. This works great for those old dining room chairs, too.
Throw some decorative pillows around
You can easily make your living room or bedroom look a little nicer just by adding a few new decorative pillows to the sofa or bed. Even better, if you can sew make them yourself and save a few extra dollars!
Add or replace artwork
This is one of my favorite ideas for updating because I love changing out our art. When we moved to Florida, we knew that we wanted a modern coastal theme so we replaced a lot of our old art to fit that look. We still kept our favorites but it was fun so swap out some of the art that I’d been getting tired of anyway. I love the new “beachy” feel and can’t wait to add even more art.
Sometimes a home remodel just isn’t in the budget but that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck with the same old thing. There are plenty of things you can do to update an old room, starting with these ideas.
