Best Resources for the New Blogger
Are you just starting out your blogging adventure? We can help you get off to a quick start by letting you in on a little secret of the best resources for the new blogger.
Start a blog
Perhaps you started blogging to share your passion about a specific topic. Maybe you started because you wanted to start a little side business and work from home. Maybe you just want to have a modern day journal of your life adventures. Regardless of why you started, you want you blog to be successful. So here are some resources that you will definitely want to use as a new blogger.
First things first, if you haven’t started a blog yet, here is a great step-by-step guide to start a blog. This tutorial walks you through getting your blog set up. Additionally, you will need to select a few things:
This is probably the most important part of becoming a blogger… deciding what you want to write about and who your audience will be. You want to be authentic, so make sure you are writing about something that you enjoy and are familiar with. Don’t just try to fill a niche or write about something that you think will be popular. Authenticity will show through every time, so if it’s something that you are passionate about, you will find an audience!
This is how your blog looks. Looks may not be everything, but for a blog, that may not be true… You want your blog to be pleasing to the eye, so your readers will want to return. If you have a lot of pop-ups or things that distract from being able to get to your content, readers will get frustrated and may not return. You will also want to make sure that your topics are clearly labeled on tabs across the top or in the sidebar. If readers come to your blog and cannot find what they are looking for, they will get discouraged. Choose the right Plugins
Once you have chosen a theme and your blog is set up, it’s time to add a few plugins. If you are new to blogging, you may be wondering, “what is a plugin?” A plugin is a piece of software that acts as an add-on to a web browser and gives the browser additional functionality. Plugins can allow a web browser to display additional content it was not originally designed to display. The first plugin you will want to install is Akismet. If you’re new to blogging, you may not have heard of this, but this little plugin will help you block spam. It is literally the first plugin you should set up! Find FREE Stock Photos
Lastly, as part of creating great content that people will want to read, it is equally as important to have visually appealing photos. A picture is worth a thousand words… and that may very well be true – especially when it comes to blogging! If your photos are not attractive, people are less likely to click on your link. So, you want to have high quality photos. In order to take attractive photos for your blog, you should use a DSLR camera, or other high quality camera. Honestly, many smartphones have great cameras on them, so you probably can just use that!
But sometimes, you just can’t take the right picture to convey your message, so you will need to use stock photos- and you definitely don’t want to have to worry about copyright infringement, so finding high quality sources that don’t require attribution is a must! Pixabay, Pexels, and Unsplash are my favorite go-to free stock photo sites that publish photos that can be used without attribution, but you can also check out my entire resource for the best stock photos if you want to explore other stock photo sites too!
