Do you like your decor with a coastal theme but don’t have a lot of money to spend? This easy seashell message board cost less than $6 to make. Find out how to make one of your own.
When we moved to Florida, we knew we wanted our new house to have a coastal theme. While we couldn’t buy everything all at once, I’ve been adding to our decor little by little. As I shopped though, I noticed a lot of things with big price tags that I felt like I could do myself. I’ve never been much of a DIY girl but lately I’ve discovered how much fun it is. In fact, I was pretty proud of myself when I turned a $10 table from Goodwill into a cute coastal themed bedside table for our guest room.
So when I saw this message board at Target for $3, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. It was destined to become my new seashell message board. I had already been working on coastal themed accessories for my office space and this was a perfect fit. Even better, the price was right!Create your own coastal themed message board on a budget! DIY Coastal Message Board
This message board didn’t look like a lot at first but I knew that I could make it pretty! A couple of clothespins were included but I bought an additional 4-pack for just $1.
You can’t have a seashell message board without seashells, right? I had been saving the shells I collected from the beach because I knew they’d come in handy one day. I was right!
The board was blue but I didn’t like how bright it was so I picked up some acrylic paint to paint it white. For another 79¢, I bought a light blue shade for the shells.
The shells just needed one thick coat but the board needed a few more.
While the shells and the board were drying, I decorated the clothespins.
I used hot glue to attach the shells around the edges and my seashell message board was finished. I love the transformation, don’t you?
My new seashell message board cost all of $5.58…not bad for a girl on a budget! I also love it so much more than if I would have just bought it this way.
Half All the fun was in making it myself.
